Furious Chelsea boss Frank Lampard slams Blues after rookies throw away two points at Brighton

ANGRY Frank Lampard slammed his Chelsea rookies after Alireza Jahanbakhsh’s brilliant overhead kick stole the Seagulls a point.

Chelsea looked to be coasting to victory before the Iranian’s moment of magic for Brighton.

But furious Lamps was frustrated his players failed to follow instructions.

The Blues boss said: “It was an incredible equaliser — but that was two points dropped.

“If we had been ruthless in the first half, the game would have been out of sight.

“We didn’t have multiple chances but we had control and opportunities to play people in.  Yet we didn’t do it. Sometimes you can accuse teams of a lack of fight or urgency.

“But today was about  a lack of quality on the ball.

“At the start we could find the full-backs easily and then we stopped doing the simple things.

“We started to give the ball away and didn’t take our chances.

“When that happens you don’t win games.”

And Blues legend Lampard added: “The Christmas period has summed up our season.

“Against Tottenham we were fantastic, a great performance.  At Arsenal we showed great spirit but we struggled to break Southampton down.

“And this was a game where we should have had the mindset to kill it, and didn’t.

“So it’s shown the good and the bad of us and that we have work to do.

“You have to know how to win games. That’s part of the process.

“In the second half we didn’t do enough at that point.

“If Jorginho  gets shut down there has to be other ways  to play.

“It was a collective lowering of quality.”

Lampard was dismissive about suggestions they are in the market for Crystal Palace’s  Wilfried Zaha — potentially a swap deal involving want-away Olivier Giroud.

He said: “I wouldn’t talk about Zaha. We have not considered that deal and he’s not a playe  of ours.

“If we need to do business we will do it behind closed doors.”
