But according to ESPN, the Toffees lead the race to sign the 23-year-old after boss Carlo Ancelotti personally called Everton to discuss a move to Merseyside.
The move could see the striker link up with countrymen Richarlison and Bernard.
Richarlison and Everton were both on international duty this summer as Brazil lifted the Copa America trophy.
Arsenal only canned a move to sign the forward as they opted to break their transfer record to sign Nicolas Pepe from Lille for £72m.
Despite Everton starting to learn English, a move never materialised with his age seen as making him almost too old to make the jump to Europe.
The 2019 season saw the Brazilian hit 15 goals along with seven assists in all competitions for Gremio.
A move to China was reportedly rejected and his reward was a near-miss in the Copa Libertadores, reaching the semi-finals before a jarring defeat to eventual champions Flamengo.
The Toffees are now looking to fill the gap left by striker Cenk Tosun.
Tosun is has completed a six-month loan to Selhurst Park.
The 28-year-old is now looking to rebuild his career in South East London after scoring just ten goals in 47 games for the Toffees.
