England manager Gareth Southgate boosts earnings by £200k thanks to his love for waistcoats

GARETH Southgate’s waistcoat has given him a huge cash windfall – after boosting the amount he earns from his image.

The Three Lions boss became an unlikely fashion icon at the 2018 World Cup in Russia after donning his trademark navy waistcoat at every match.

His sideline style saw waistcoat sales double in England – and latest documents now show Southgate has banked £200,000 through image rights in the year following the tournament.

That works out at a £4,000 a week profit for Southgate from his image – on top of his £3 million a year England salary.

Latest accounts for his image rights company FHS Promotions Ltd show the England gaffer had £203,788 in cash.

The cash, for the year to August 2019, represented a 13-fold increase on the year before the World Cup, when he had £15,941 in the company.

Southgate had assets of £413, 260 and owed creditors £209,472.

He has also set up a property firm called MAS Investment Holdings Ltd, to deal in the ‘buying and selling of real estate’ and ‘letting and operating of own or leased real estate’, according to Companies House.

A source said: “Gareth really set himself apart during the World Cup with his waistcoat.
“He looked very stylish and it’s become one thing that people automatically think of when they see him.

It’s done wonders for his image – and his bank balance.”

The former Crystal Palace defender, 49, famously once appeared in an advert for Pizza Hut with a bag over his head.

The tongue-in-cheek TV appearance came after Southgate missed a penalty against West Germany in the World Cup semi-final in 1990.

Southgate will lead the England team into the 2020 Euros this summer.
