JERMAIN DEFOE admitted he “laughed” after hearing Jamie O’Hara’s comparison of Bournemouth and Rangers.
Former Wolves and Tottenham midfielder O’Hara ruffled feathers in Scotland after claiming that Championship side Bournemouth would be a bigger job for Steven Gerrard than Rangers.
Jermain Defoe insists there is ‘no comparison between Bournemouth and ‘massive’ Rangers
Speaking on talkSPORT, the Billericay Town gaffer said: “I wouldn’t want to disrespect the Rangers people because they are a huge football club but it’s a bigger job to potentially be the Bournemouth manager.”
And Rangers hero Defoe, 37, was left shocked after hearing the outspoken pundit’s comments.
The Ibrox ace – who will miss Thursday’s Europa League clash with Bayer Leverkusen through injury – has also played for the Cherries.
He said: “To be totally honest, when I saw it I laughed. I just couldn’t believe it.
“I played for Bournemouth but to be honest there is no comparison. What he said was laughable.”
Rangers legend Ally McCoist also destroyed O’Hara with a brutal one-line response about his career.
The former Spurs midfielder said: “Ally didn’t do it in England, he went to Sunderland and he flopped and he went back to Scotland.
“If he had the opportunity to sign for Bournemouth now, he would take take, he would take it and run.”
McCoist instantly fired back and replied: “I was hopeless in England and I was still better than you.”
Neil Warnock waded into the debate by claiming Celtic and Rangers would finish in the Premier League top six.
O’Hara had also angered the Ibrox faithful when he claimed that Celtic are “on another planet” to their historic Glasgow rivals.
Celtic have won nine consecutive league titles with Rangers finishing second.
