Sturridge has been a free agent since being let go by Turkish side Trabzonspor in March.

The ex-England star, 31, had been on the radar of Sheffield United – but they opted to bring in Rhian Brewster instead.

Sturridge was seen training with eighth-tier Kidsgrove Athletic in a bid to stay fit and last month insisted a ‘comeback is near’.

The ex-Chelsea and Manchester City star revealed he would pay ‘any amount’ of money to finally be free of his injury woes.

He is among a star-studded XI of players available on a free right now.

Earlier this week, ex-Liverpool defender Conor Masterson claimed Sturridge was the best player ‘by a mile’ when he trained with the senior squad at Melwood.

The now QPR-ace told Goal: “Daniel Sturridge, man! He was just a joke. He ripped everyone apart.

“Coutinho was good, but Sturridge was on another level.

“He was so sharp, he had pace, he could finish, he had skill, he could do everything. He stood out a mile to me.”

Sturridge continues to look for a way back into football after serving a four-month ban following charges related to betting.

Sturridge has seen fitness problems blight a career which saw him shine at Chelsea and Liverpool and made him an automatic pick for England at his peak.

And he recently said: “I saw a quote from Marco Reus the other day which said he’d pay any amount of money to just play injury free and never be injured. And honestly, I’d do the same.

“You know, I would. I would pay any amount of money.

“I’d spend loads of money outside of the physios at work to do extra stuff to ensure that I can be as healthy as possible.

“Hundreds of thousands, to be fair, you know, to make sure that my body has to be in the best shape possible.

“And sometimes, you can do, you can put the hours in, you can do everything. But sometimes it is just luck.”
