Cristiano Ronaldo showered Madeira footballers with gifts after training with them in lockdown and is in ‘great shape’

CRISTIANO RONALDO reportedly showered Madeira footballers with gifts after training with them in lockdown and is in “great shape”.

The Portugal ace arrived back in Turin on Monday and has to spend 14 days in quarantine before he can return to training with his Juventus teammates.

The 35-year-old had been in Madeira since March 9 with his family, after returning to the island ahead of the suspension of Serie A, as his mother Dolores Aveiro suffered a stroke.

Ronaldo, missus Georgina Rodriguez, the four kids, mum, and brother Hugo were in quarantine together at a rented £3,500-a-week six-bed mansion they moved into near the fishing village of Canical.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner kept the tools sharp by training at the Madeira Stadium, home of second tier CD Nacional.

And practised with Madeira Under-19 goalkeeper Filipe Goncalves – who could barely believe his luck.

According to Tuttosport the Juve ace splashed on presents to show his thanks to the footie aces who helped him train.

Goncalves said: “It all really happened suddenly, so much so that even now, if I think about it, it doesn’t seem true to me.

“Cristiano surprised me positively from many points of view.

“After the third training session, when he realised that it would be the last because he was returning to Lisbon, he chased Hugo to thank him and also gave him a gift. And he did the same with me.

“I can assure you that the most beautiful and unimaginable gift, and that it is worth more than anything else, was being able to train with my idol. A dream.

“He is in great shape, he trained a lot in Madeira.

“He seemed to me to be happy with his experience in Italy, in Turin and especially in playing in Juventus.”

It’s no surprise that the Portugal captain is in good shape, as has been keeping fans regularly updated on his crazy fitness schedule, involving ab crunch challenges and hill sprints with Georgina, amid the lockdown.

And he recently enjoyed a hiking adventure with the missus and his son on scenic Madeira.

Ronaldo was hailed for donating money to struggling lower league players in his native Portugal during the coronavirus crisis.

The Juventus icon was at the forefront of an initiative that ensures Portugal players hand over part of their Euro 2020 qualification bonuses.

Now the 35-year-old is back at his Turin mansion – two villas tucked away together on a hill in a private road guarded by security.

Ronaldo, who will have to spend two more weeks in quarantine in Italy, will then meet with team-mates after the Italian government gave Serie A the green light to restart the season.
