Chelsea ace Olivier Giroud eyed by West Ham in January transfer with worries over Antonio injury and Haller form

WEST HAM are reportedly eyeing a move for Olivier Giroud in January.

The Hammers are keen on signing a striker next month with main man Michail Antonio out injured and Sebastien Haller failing to impress.

And Chelsea forward Giroud, 34, is said to be near the top of their wanted list.

Antonio has been a Hammers goal machine in 2020 but he has played just one half in their last eight games because of a hamstring injury picked up during the 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

And £45million backup Haller has only managed two goals in his absence.

David Moyes is said to have doubts over the Ivorian’s suitability and wants to bring in an established forward in January, according to the Mirror.

West Ham are said to be open to offloading out-of-favour Andriy Yarmolenko in order to fund the move.

The East Londoners have also been linked with former hitman Marko Arnautovic as well as summer target Josh King from Bournemouth.

Frank Lampard would prefer to keep Giroud but the France international is keen to play more to secure his place at next summer’s Euros.

Chelsea beat West Ham 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Monday night with Giroud dropped after he started the Blues’ defeat to Wolves in their previous game.

Tammy Abraham replaced him and scored two quickfire second-half goals to secure the points for the West Londoners.

But speaking after the game, Lampard moved quickly to play down the significance of the snub.

The Blues boss said: “It’s just a rotation and looking at different attributes of players against opposition

“I’ve got choices to make and whichever ones I make there’s probably a good case for others.

“With Tammy, some energy in the team from the front.

“Oli has been fantastic and Oli can obviously come in off the bench as well, I’ve got choices there pretty much every week in terms of those two.”
