Charly Musonda set to end 15-month Chelsea injury hell and can return after career almost ended due to knee injury

CHARLY MUSONDA is reportedly set to end his 15-month Chelsea injury hell after recovering from a serious knee injury.

Goal claims the winger, 24, is just a week or two away from returning to training with the Under-23s after spending over a year on the sidelines.

Musonda was told he had just a 20 per cent chance of playing again after undergoing knee surgery in August 2019.

He first suffered a nasty cruciate ligament tear in 2016 before hurting the same knee again in 2018.

But Musonda remained positive and made a return to the gym in October.

He is now set to defy doctors and return to full training with Chelsea’s development squad next month.

And there could still be a chance of Musonda turning out again for the senior side in the future.

The Belgian has only ever turned out seven times for the Blues, all coming in the 2017/18 campaign under Antonio Conte.

Musonda has also had loan spells at Real Betis, Celtic and Vitesse Arnhem.

And he will be hoping to get back on the pitch shortly after fighting hard to recover from his lengthy setback.

Musonda gave an update on his sad situation in October, telling fans: “It’s been four years sine I played back to back professional games, three years since I last played for my club.

“Two of those four years, I’ve been injured with the post cruciate ligament of my knee. Nothing but heartbreak and heartache.

“Doctors told me going through surgery after being out for so long would be the end, an impossible mountain to climb, were the exact words.

“This is my story and how I keep training and staying ready, despite the odds, one day I’ll be back.”

Chelsea fans will be delighted to hear of Musonda’s incredible comeback after some poor performances in the Premier League.

The Blues have lost successive games to Everton and Wolves.

And it doesn’t get easier for Frank Lampard, games against West Ham, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester City coming within the space of two weeks.
