BRIGHTON fans were revelling in Tariq Lamptey’s stunning performance at Newcastle – which saw the star top the Premier League speed charts.
The rapid right-back clocked a stunning 22.8mph to beat every other player from the weekend’s action.
Fellow speedster Allan Saint-Maximin was one man caught out by Lamptey’s fleet of foot, bringing down the youngster for a penalty at St James’ Park.
It set the tone for an awesome afternoon for the Brighton star.
At just 19, he has shown incredible maturity and athleticism with the quality and pace of his movement down the flank, supplemented by an assist against Chelsea a week ago.
Unfortunately for Lamptey, he suffered a knock and was replaced after 58 minutes of the Seagulls’ 3-0 win.
Graham Potter hailed the performance and personality of a player who left Chelsea in January in search of regular action.
And Frank Lampard’s team stunningly decided NOT to negotiate a buy-back clause as part of the £4million deal.
Potter said: “He’s a special character, really humble, wants to help the team.
“He’s a great personality. The players love him. And then he has got the desire and ability to run in behind and threaten the back line.
“He is playing against some quite quick players on that side of the pitch and he took a couple of heavy challenges as well.
“He just plays with courage and a freshness.”

Ghana are chasing Lamptey for a call-up to their national team, but they will have to be quick to nab the England Under-21 ace.
Lamptey’s 22.8mph top speed on the weekend put him comfortably ahead of the other runners and riders.
Southampton’s Nathan Tella arrived second at 22.1mph, before Jamal Lewis at 21.8mph.
Level with the Newcastle youngster was Fulham’s Kenny Tete with Son Heung-min in fifth at 21.7mph.
