BARCELONA have identified RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner as a summer transfer target, according to reports
Werner, 24, would become a priority for the Blaugrana if they miss out on top target Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
Barcelona will move for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner if they fail to land Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.
The German forward is believed to have a £50million release clause in his RB Leipzig contract and Liverpool are also thought to be interested in the striker, with Jurgen Klopp known to be a fan.
Regarding a possible move to Liverpool, Werner said last month: “I know Liverpool is the best team in the world at the moment.
“When you’re linked with that team it makes me very proud.
“There’s one of the best managers in the world with Jurgen Klopp, and he is also German.
“Many things suggest that I would maybe fit in very well there with my playing style.”
Werner, who has 27 goals in 36 appearances for Leipzig this season, was also a target of Bayern Munich last year, with the German giants hoping he would run down his expiring contract to join them for free in 2020.
Instead, the Germany international put pen to paper on a new deal in August and looks set to move elsewhere this summer.
Manchester United have also been linked with the striker, while Inter would also consider a move if they lose £90million-rated Martinez.
The Argentine striker has long been linked with a move away from the San Siro and like Werner, is seen by Barcelona as a possible long-term replacement for Luis Suarez.
But the Spanish champions could face competition from Manchester United, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and arch-rivals Real Madrid for the 22-year-old.
