Atletico Madrid left-back Lodi ‘tests positive for coronavirus with nine others found to have immunity’

However EFE report that Lodi, 22, has coronavirus and will therefore not be able to begin work for at least ten days.

The same outlet states that nine players were shown to have antibodies to repel the illness, suggesting they could have already caught it and recovered – and are now immune.

No Atleti players were confirmed as falling ill before Spain instigated a lockdown that is now slowly being eased after 26,299 confirmed fatalities.

According to AS, Lodi was known to have symptoms in early March and he will remain in quarantine until a negative result for the illness.

The player suffered from breathing difficulties and has remained at home with his partner, who has also reportedly shown symptoms of the pandemic disease.

Atletico last played on March 11, a Champions League win away to Liverpool that has been called into question for allowing fans into Anfield.

Any cases of coronavirus could put LaLiga’s plans to finish the 2019/20 calendar under threat.

Neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid are said to have any cases following testing across their squads but RAC-1 claim five unnamed players across the top-tiers of Spanish football have the virus.

Two of the footballers are thought to be in the Segunda Division with three part of LaLiga teams.

Coaching staff and all employees coming into close contact with team members are also being tested as part of football’s return in the country.

Training exercises will adhere to social distancing guidelines before matches kick-off on June 20 as part of a five-week schedule to finish the season.
