Arsenal transfer blow as Dominik Szoboszlai agrees personal terms with RB Leipzig as £18m deal nears completion

ARSENAL have been dealt a huge blow following reports that Dominik Szoboszlai agreed personal terms with RB Leipzig.

The 20-year-old had been a major target for the Gunners but looks to have settled on leaving Red Bull Salzburg for its sister club.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed the Hungarian has snubbed advances from Mikel Arteta’s side to join RB Leipzig in January.

Szoboszlai is set to touch down in Germany today with his representatives to undergo a medical ahead of his switch from Salzburg.

The midfielder is seen as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe – having bagged four goals and registered six assists in just 11 league games.

He has also notched twice in six Champions League fixtures this term and had attracted interest from both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane is believed to have personally contacted Szoboszlai earlier this month.

The Frenchman wanted to sign the playmaker as a direct replacement for another one of Arsenal’s targets Isco.

The Gunners were willing to trigger Szoboszlai’s £18.25million release clause as well but had planned to pay it in three separate instalments.

Missing out on last year’s Austrian Bundesliga Player of the Season will come as a further blow to the north Londoners after club chief Edu admitted they are in dire need of more creativity.

He said at Tuesday’s Arsenal fans’ forum: “It’s quite clear what we need.

“We need a player with creativity in the middle, we don’t have that in the squad right now.”

SunSport previously reported that Arsenal boss Arteta is now set to turn his attention to either Madrid ace Isco or Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.
