Arsenal in six-club transfer battle for Sao Paulo striker Brenner and can land him for less than £45m release clause

ARSENAL are reportedly interested in signing young Brazilian striker Brenner – but face a transfer battle with FIVE other clubs.

Calcio Mercato claims the Sao Paulo star, 20, has caught Mikel Arteta’s eye with some stunning performances this season.

He has scored 15 goals and assisted a further three in just 25 games.

That works out at a goal every 94 minutes, with his performances also helping Sao Paulo go unbeaten since September.

And despite already boasting a young Brazilian forward in Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal could be set to add another to their ranks.

However, Brenner is also wanted by Juventus, Lazio and AC Milan.

He is eligible for an Italian passport thanks to relatives on his mother’s side.

And there is also interest from fellow European sides Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax.

Brenner won’t come cheap too, and has a release clause in his contract for foreign sides worth £45million.

However, the report adds Sao Paulo could be willing to drop the price next summer to a slightly more reasonable fee.

Arsenal’s reported interest in Brenner comes as record signing Nicolas Pepe claims he is ‘frustrated’ with his bit-part role this season.

The £72m signing from Lille said: “My goal is to play more. A player who plays is happy.

“It is frustrating for any player to be on the bench.”
