And eagle-eyed viewers noticed a tactics board open in the background – before producers then zoomed in on the open notes to make sure everyone saw.
The plans appeared to show a line-up formation graphic with part of Arsenal’s shape possibly featuring a back three.
And just as the tactics board may have suggested, the Gunners lined up with Shkodran Mustafi, Granit Xhaka and Sead Kolasinac as the three central defenders for the European tie against the Irish minnows.
But it appeared Dundalk were wise to their Premier League opponents’ tactical flip as they surprisingly frustrated Arsenal for most of the first half – until the floodgates opened just before the break.
Plenty of fans on social media at home were baffled by the Spaniard’s tactics being revealed.
One said: “Arteta is so confident today, he’s letting everyone see his tactics.”
Another wrote: “Arteta cover your tactics!”
A third added: “Arteta PR is unreal! There is no way that “tactics board” was placed there by accident.”
One user joked: “Looks like he’s playing connect four tbh.”
And Paddy Power tweeted: “Arteta has his tactics book wide open, the fool. Someone text this to the Dundalk coaching staff immediately.”
