Arsenal will not have a clause to make the 24-year-old’s stay a permanent one at the end of the season.

Boss Arteta is delighted to get the deal over the line and told Arsenal’s official site: “Dani was an integral part of our team last season and finished the season in excellent form.

“I love Dani’s passion and commitment and he’s a highly skilful player.

“We’re all delighted to welcome him back and we look forward to seeing him pick up where he left off.”

Ceballos was an instrumental figure under Arteta helping the club lift the FA Cup.

Technical director Edu added: “We’re thrilled to have Dani back with us for the new season.

“We all know his qualities after an impressive 2019-2020 campaign, which ended with him playing a key role in our FA Cup success.

“We’re excited to add Dani to the list of quality players we are bringing in.”

Ceballos will continue to wear the No8 shirt.

He made two assists in 22 Premier League appearances for the Gunners and featured 37 times across all competitions.

His arrival is likely to see the departure of Lucas Torreira who is wanted by Fiorentina.

The Uruguayan outcast is subject to a £24million offer from the Serie A side with Arteta hoping to raise cash and land other targets.

The Spaniard wants to use the cash generated to help land Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

Both players are set to cost a combined £90m as Arteta plots a major shake-up of his midfield.
