Arsenal and Man Utd in transfer battle for Nicolo Barella with Inter Milan midfielder eyed over January deal

PREMIER LEAGUE duo Arsenal and Manchester United are ready to battle it out for Inter Milan ace Nicolo Barella, according to reports.

The 23-year-old central midfielder has proven his potential with a string of sensational performances for Antonio Conte’s side.

One of those came in the 3-2 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid where he brilliantly assisted Lautaro Martinez with a deft backheel.

Barella joined Inter on loan in July 2019 from Cagliari and made his move permanent for £22.5million over the summer.

He still has four years left on his contract but FC Inter News write how the San Siro side are already preparing an extension to his contract.

They write how his wages will be increased from £2.2m-a-year to £3.5m to ward off Premier League suitors.

Arsenal are still in the market for a new midfielder despite landing Thomas Partey on deadline day.

They failed to get a move for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar over the line and Mikel Arteta still wants to strengthen in the middle of the park.

United are keeping their options open with rumours linking Paul Pogba away from the club.

Spanish duo Barcelona and Atletico have also been linked with Barella who has 16 Italy caps under his belt.

However it could take a huge offer to lure Barella away from Inter.

He rejected a whole host of Serie A rivals to join the Nerazzurri in order to fulfill a childhood dream.

Arteta says Arsenal are inconsistent and something needs to be improved
