Andre Gomes to return to Everton training just three months after horror ankle break against Tottenham

ANDRE GOMES will make his return to training just three months after he suffered a serious ankle injury against Spurs.

The Everton midfielder had to have surgery to repair a fracture dislocation after his collision with Son Heung-min.

Gomes, who has been undergoing rehabilitation in Portugal, will step up his recovery at Finch Farm next week.

The 26-year-old has been out of action since the 1-1 draw with Tottenham on November 3.

He fell under the challenge of Heung-min Son and clattered into Serge Aurier before being stretchered off in agonising pain.

Son publicly apologised for the “accident” after scoring twice in Spurs’ 4-0 win at Red Star Belgrade just three days later.

Former Barcelona star Gomes struggled to fight back the tears as he read out messages of support from fans after he went under the knife.

Carlo Ancelotti has now confirmed the 29-cap Portugal international will begin his comeback with individual training sessions.

Speaking on Friday, he said: “Andre Gomes can come back next week and start to train individually here.

“It is good news. He is doing well in his recovery.

“It is going fast, so I hope as soon as possible he can be with us, because he’s a fantastic player.”
