Ajax fans took to social media to show their frustration at the way Getafe set up with one user branding their style of play as “more anti-football than Mourinho’s Chelsea.”
Another user added: “Getafe possibly one of the most disgraceful opponents to visit the Johan Cruijff Arena in recent times.
“Complete anti-football from the Spanish side and horrible diving throughout.”
Twitter user Jack Doxey wrote: “Bad night for Dutch football, and a win for anti-football.
“Football should be entertaining, a distraction from the daily demands of efficiency and cynicism.
“Yet that’s exactly Getafe’s brand of play.”
It wasn’t just criticism Getafe were on the receiving end of, as plenty praised Jose Bordalas and his side.
Joaquin Delmar wrote: “Getafe limited Ajax to literally three shots on target over 180 minutes.
“You may hate them for being a frustrating team to play against but they absolutely bossed Ajax and this tie.
“Hate the sense of entitlement some people have just because a style of play doesn’t please them.”
George Hipgrave tweeted: ” When are fans going to learn that anti-football is just another way of playing football, more than one way to win.
“Tiki-taka and fast paced styles need combating when you haven’t got the same resources.”
In the first leg of the tie, Ajax winger Ryan Babel had mocked Getafe star Allan Nyom after the defender went down injured.
Babel imitated his opponent with a fake limp after losing his temper.
Getafe took the lead in the fifth minute yesterday before Danilo and an own goal saw Ajax win but it wasn’t enough for Erik ten Hag’s side to progress.
The Spanish side now face the tough task of facing Inter Milan in the last-16.
Milan cruised into the next round after a 4-1 aggregate win over Bulgarian side Ludogorets.
