Ainsley Maitland-Niles ‘still pondering over Arsenal future’ with Wolves preparing improved transfer offer

AINSLEY MAITLAND-NILES is reportedly yet to decide his Arsenal future with Wolves waiting in the wings.

The newly-capped England international wants to prioritise regular first-team football as he weighs up his options, according to The Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old was brought off the bench for the Three Lions against Denmark in the Nations League on Tuesday by Gareth Southgate.

But the versatile ace knows he needs regular Premier League minutes to maintain a place in Southgate’s squad ahead of the delayed Euro 2020 tournament.

Wolves had a £15million bid rejected for Maitland-Niles last month.

But Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are thought to be preparing a new and improved offer.

And the lure of regular first-team starts could prove too much to turn down for Maitland-Niles.

It would be a wrench to leave North London after becoming a Gunner aged SIX.

However, after receiving no firm assurances from Mikel Arteta about his chances of holding down a regular starting spot, Maitland-Niles may choose to move on.

He has often operated as a full-back but may not get the nod for Saturday’s opener away against Fulham.

Both Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin are anticipated to be available for selection and the English youngster could have to settle for a place on the bench.

But if he is consigned to being a sub in the Prem’s first weekend it could be a telling indication of his standing and hasten a move to the Midlands.

In an ideal world Maitland-Niles would sign a long-term deal at the Emirates with the promise of plenty of action.

Yet he could end up arriving at Molineux as Spurs signing Matt Doherty’s replacement.
