Inside the luxury RV motorhomes F1 stars including Lewis Hamilton are staying in for the Austrian Grand Prix

THE start of the new Formula 1 season is so strange that some drivers are currently holed up in CARAVANS.

But this is the glitzy world of F1, so there’s much more luxury involved than a campsite at Camber Sands.

The season got underway last weekend in unique circumstances with the first part of a double-header in Austria.

Under heavy restrictions over their movement and contact with others, drivers are taking necessary measures to remain comfortable throughout the stint in Spielberg.

Many have opted for team hotels while placed inside strict “bubbles”.

Typically, this means they can only be in close contact with their manager and their physio during their down-time.

But some have instead pitched up in luxury motorhomes at spots around the Red Bull Ring circuit.

Drivers including Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have chosen to go their own way and bed down in an RV.

These motorhomes can be parked up in areas usually dedicated to promotional activities or even in public campsites, now left empty with the GPs taking place behind closed doors.

Racing Point pair Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez have also opted for the RV experience, with Valtteri Bottas reportedly doing likewise.

In a 2018 clip for Red Bull, Aussie racer Daniel Ricciardo showed off his lodgings at the Belgian GP.

His ensemble included a kitchen and living area, small bathroom, a cosy bedroom with low ceiling and an exercise compartment on a lower level.

But Red Bull’s motorhome is somewhat modest compared to Nico Rosberg’s choice of camper during his career.

The former world champion put his RV on the market in 2017 after his retirement, according to F1Destinations.

The spacious living area featured a kitchen, breakfast bar, sofa, dining table and TV.

A large shower and bathroom are around the corner with two bedrooms, one featuring a double bed and the other hosting bunk beds.

Rosberg was quoted as explaining the benefits of the motorhome over a hotel room, saying: “I think there are two advantages in having your own motorhome.

“First, it allows me to create a home from home while I’m on the road because I have all my favorite things around me. Pictures, books, stuff like that.

“Second, I don’t have to worry about getting caught up in traffic on race morning, which means I can stay in bed a bit longer!”
