GOOD MORNING FORMULA ONE FANS
n
n

Ferrari stars Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc were back at Italian circuit Mugello for private testing yesterday.
n
n

They both drove a 2018 Ferrari SF71H at the famous track.
n
n

It was the first time Vettel has driven since announcing he will be leaving Ferrari at the end of the year.
n
n

But Leclerc was back in saddle just last week as he cruised around the team’s Maranello HQ in an SF1000.
n
n

Meanwhile, F1 fans will be able to BUY squares on the chequered flag shown at the end of each race.
n
n

As part of the ‘We Race as One’ initiative, supporters can purchase their very own bit of history to raise money for charity.
n
n

It’s reckoned £11,000 can be raised at each race, with 56 out of 80 squares up for grabs and the rest given to the race promoter.
n
n

Costing £199.99 each, fans can already start getting their hands on the Austrian Grand Prix flag.
n
n

In further news, McLaren have reportedly begun legal proceedings to secure refinancing.
n
n

The BBC claims court documents say McLaren are experiencing “severe and unexpected financial difficulty” due to coronavirus.
n
n

They need funds by July 17 to secure their long-term future.
n
n

It’s reckoned around 1,200 employees are set to be made redundant too.
n
n

Finally, Formula One is set to introduce a new graphic for TV viewers when racing returns this summer.
n
n

A metric called Ultimate Driver Speed Comparison is set to be introduced for viewers from the second race at Silverstone in August.
n
n

According to Autosport.com the data will help compare to drivers from as far back as 1983.
n
n

Chiefs are hoping to display three different graphics: a first for driver skill rating, a second for car/team development/overall season performance and a third for qualifying and race pace prediction.
n”,”raw”:”

GOOD MORNING F1 FANS
n
n

Formula One announced an initiative on Monday aimed at tackling racism and encouraging more diversity within the series, reports AP.
n
n

They said in a statement that We Race As One will also address issues surrounding inequality, sustainability and the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to four F1 races being cancelled and delayed the season’s start from mid-March to July.
n
n

F1 intends to send a strong message about equality when the season begins on July 3 at the Austrian Grand Prix, the first of eight scheduled European races through early September.
n
n

The statement said: “We want our restart to show that as a sporting community we stand united against racism and we will do more to address inequality and diversity in F1.”
n
n

The announcement comes after six-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton said he is setting up a commission to increase diversity in motorsport.
n
n

The British star is the only black driver in F1.
n
n

Elsewhere, Daniel Ricciardo admitted that Ferrari’s announcement that Sebastian Vettel would leave at the end of the year had been a catalyst for him to move to McLaren in 2021.
n
n

He told the F1 Nation podcast: “I think obviously Vettel’s announcement or news with Ferrari kind of sparked everything, and then things were moving pretty quickly around Carlos and all the other stuff.
n
n

“I don’t think there was, although it seemed like maybe there was still time, I don’t actually think there was, to make movement, if that’s what you were kind of going for.
n
n

“If we start racing – and this is all just obviously what I’m playing in my head – if you start racing in July, which wasn’t 100%, let’s say we did, which we are by the looks of it, you’ve then got a few races.
n
n

“You’re not going to find out [everyone’s form] in the first race, the second race – you’re probably going to wait ‘til August, maybe even September ‘til you really know where everyone’s at.
n
n

“And I think by then it was going to be too late to get something you were really after.”
n”,”raw”:”

Lewis Hamilton has revealed he’s been the target of racial abuse since he was eight years old, while continually being accused of “not being British enough.”
n
n

He told the Sunday Times: “This is not a new battle for me.
n
n

“Even now, the media ask me different questions than they do my competitors and make accusations directly and indirectly — you’re not British enough, not humble enough, not loved enough by the public.
n
n

“Being the first black “anything” is a proud and lonely walk.”
n”,”raw”:”

“Even now, the media ask me different questions than they do my competitors and make accusations directly and indirectly — you’re not British enough, not humble enough, not loved enough by the public.

GREEN LIGHT
n

With two weeks left until the season starts in Austria, Lewis Hamilton declared his pride as he attended a Black Lives Matter demonstration at Hyde Park.
n

He posted: “Went down to Hyde Park today for the peaceful protest and I was so proud to see in person so many people of all races and backgrounds supporting this movement.
n

“I was proud to be out there acknowledging and supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, and my black heritage.
n

“I was so happy to see people of all ages, sporting Black Lives Matter signs and saying it just as passionately as I was.
n

“I was also happy to see so many white supporters out there today in the name of equality for all. It was really moving. I’m feeling extremely positive that change will come, but we cannot stop now. Keep pushing.”
n

Hamilton had previously criticised his fellow F1 drivers for their reaction to the killing of George Floyd, writing that their silence is “deafening”.
n

Meanwhile Daniel Ricciardo admitted that Ferrari’s announcement that Sebastian Vettel would leave at the end of the year had been a catalyst for him to move to McLaren to be sure of a drive in 2021.
n

He told the F1 Nation podcast: “I think obviously Vettel’s announcement or news with Ferrari kind of sparked everything, and then things were moving pretty quickly around Carlos and all the other stuff.
n

“I don’t think there was, although it seemed like maybe there was still time, I don’t actually think there was, to make movement, if that’s what you were kind of going for.
n

“If we start racing – and this is all just obviously what I’m playing in my head – if you start racing in July, which wasn’t 100%, let’s say we did, which we are by the looks of it, you’ve then got a few races.
n

“You’re not going to find out [everyone’s form] in the first race, the second race – you’re probably going to wait ‘til August, maybe even September ‘til you really know where everyone’s at.
n

“And I think by then it was going to be too late to get something you were really after.”
n

Ricciardo added: “Obviously the reality is, you get pitches from whichever team is talking to you and to some extent, especially now without having any races and any kind of proof, other than last year, you kind of have to believe.
n

“It’s kind of what pitch do you, maybe even ‘believe’ is too much. But what pitch excites you more than the other?
n

“You’re going with obviously what you feel and think at the time. Who knows? If I go back to last year, last year’s our best reference for now.
n

“They [McLaren] were the team that made the most noise – Mercedes won the championship again – but it was quite clear to most that McLaren was the team that made the biggest step out of all.
n

“So that was encouraging obviously for them and that’s really all you can kind of base it off and their pitch for the future.”
n”,”raw”:”
