Woman ‘punched in face’ by boxing champ Kovalev reveals she has metal plate in neck after horror injuries

A WOMAN who alleges boxer Sergey Kovalev “punched” her in the face has revealed she needed a metal plate in her neck after the “attack”.

Jamie Frontz spoke with TMZ Sports on Monday to discuss the alleged 2018 assault by Russian light-heavyweight Kovalev in California.

Frontz claims he punched her with a closed fist after she denied his sexual advances and was preparing to ask him to leave her rented cabin.

She claimed Kovalev’s alleged assault required four major surgeries to fix and was left needing a plate and four screws in her neck, and a nose reconstruction.

Frontz told TMZ: “When he punched me, my nose exploded, blood went everywhere.

“There was blood all over the cabin. All over the walls. All over the carpet. All over everything. I screamed ‘He just broke my f—ing nose.’

“I physically was in so much pain that I have scars to this day all over my hands and my arms.

“I was literally scratching holes in my arms till they bled because what he had done to my neck had pinched something in there which felt like… and I don’t know how else to describe it other than I felt like I was covered in red ants that were biting me 24/7.

“So when they finally figured out what was going on with my neck, he had displaced a vertebrate in my neck which was causing the pinching and the itching in my arms.

“They recommended that I had a ACDF surgery, which was basically a spinal fusion surgery.

“I know have this 3in scar across my neck, I have a metal plate and four screws in my neck, I had my nose reconstructed and it’s still not the same, it’s crooked.”

Kovalev was arrested in June last year and charged with felony assault for the alleged incident.

The former unified champion has entered a not-guilty plea, but faces up to four years in prison if convicted with the case still pending.

Frontz last year filed an $8million (£6.1m) civil lawsuit against Kovalev.

The two are said to have made an agreement last October – one month before Kovalev fought Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez – with the Russian agreeing to pay Fontz $650,000 (£498,013) in three instalments.

But Frontz claimed Kovalev wrote her an initial cheque for $250,000 (£191,543) in October, but is yet to pay anything since.

Kovalev is now being sued by Fontz as she looks to collect the rest of the money.

According to TMZ, Fontz’s lawsuit reveals Kovalev was guaranteed to make at least $10m (£7.6m) for his November fight against Canelo, that resulted in the 36-year-old losing by 11th round knockout.
