Tyson Fury’s team put out damning statement blasting ‘misleading’ Anthony Joshua claims and say he is focused on Wilder

TYSON FURY’s promoters say the Gypsy King’s focus is solely on his trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder and talk of a fight with Anthony Joshua should be “disregarded”.

There has been much clamour for a “battle of Britain” unification bout between the 31-year-old and rival Joshua.

However fans hoping to see the two British sluggers battle it out in the ring will have to be patient.

In an official statement, MTK Global, Top Rank and Queensberry Promotions stated: “Tyson Fury is the globally recognised number one heavyweight in the world and the current Lineal, WBC and Ring Magazine champion.

“Tyson is contracted to a third fight with former WBC world champion Deontay Wilder.

“Any statement made regarding negotiations, talks, venues or any other bout should be disregarded.

“Any updates regarding future fights will only be made through official channels, and we will continue to deliver boxing fans the biggest and best fights involving ‘The Gypsy King’.”

While Fury will have to deal with Wilder once again, Joshua has a title defence of his own to focus on.

The 30-year-old will defend his WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles against IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev.

The fight is due to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on June 20 – although it may well be postponed due to coronavirus.

Ex two-weight king David Haye has called on Joshua to demolish the Bulgarian when they do meet.

He said: “I don’t think AJ needs to box like that against Pulev.

“He can box how he usually boxes — dynamic and explosive.

“He can go out there and use his physicality, his punch power, his angles.

“Yes, he can outbox him, but I don’t think the world wants that. The world wants to see the world heavyweight champion do what Fury did.

“If Fury can do that to Wilder, Joshua should do something similar to Pulev.”

Meanwhile, Fury is facing an investigation amid claims a Lancashire farmer was offered £25,000 to lie about the WBC heavyweight champion’s failed drugs test in 2015.

The Gypsy King was found to have illegal levels of steroid nandrolone in his system after his win over Christian Hammer.

Fury and his cousin Hughie — who also tested positive — blamed the result on eating uncastrated wild boar.

Now UK Anti-Doping are set to launch a probe after farmer Martin Carefoot claimed in the Mail on Sunday that he lied to investigators about supplying the meat on the promise of £25,000.

If Fury is found guilty of tampering with the first investigation, which followed those positive tests, he could be hit by an eight-year suspension which would end his career.
