TYSON FURY has shared his thanks after he was named the highest-paid fighter in the world.
The Gypsy King triumphed over Brit rival Anthony Joshua and UFC star Conor McGregor after raking in an eye-watering £46million over the past 12 months
Fury stepped into the boxing ring for three fights in the time frame, beating Tom Schwarz, Otto Wallin and then Deontay Wilder, dethroning the previously-unbeaten WBC heavyweight champ.
The 31-year-old also banked £12m for stepping into a wrestling ring to face Braun Strowman at the WWE’s Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia.
As revealed by Forbes, his bouts netted him a cool £40m with the remaining £6m coming from sponsorships deals.
Following the announcement, Fury tweeted: “Massive thanks to my team and god, not a bad year.”
McGregor comes in second among all the combat stars despite the fact that his only fight over the past year was a 40 second clinic against Donald Cerrone in January.
Notorious earned £26m for his troubles against Cowboy – his £13m extra in endorsements meant he pipped Joshua’s £38m by just £1m.
American Wilder came in fourth with Canelo Alvarez completing the top five after securing just shy of £30m.
Fury recently revealed that, despite earning more than McGregor, he has held talks with Dana White over a UFC switch – but the champ warns it will only come once he hangs up his boxing gloves.
The unbeaten heavyweight champion last year sparked speculation he could make a splash in the Octagon after confirming an interest in facing UFC champion Stipe Miocic or powerhouse Francis Ngannou.
While Fury is the highest-paid combat sports star, his haul was only enough for 11th spot in the overall global athletes’ list.
Despite not winning any Grand Slams since 2018, Roger Federer was named the highest-paid sportsperson for the first time as he pocketed a very tidy £86m.
The Swiss legend narrowly edged out footballing superstars Cristiano Ronaldo (£85m) and Lionel Messi (£84m).
