Tyson Fury reveals close bond with dad John after ditching coach Ben Davison ahead of Deontay Wilder rematch

TYSON FURY has revealed close bond with dad John after ditching coach Ben Davison ahead of his mouthwatering rematch against Deontay Wilder.

Following his points victory last time out against Otto Wallin, Tyson’s dad John blasted the tactics imposed by former coach Ben Davison.

He was fuming that his son “never landed a meaningful punch” and described the performance as “the worst I have ever seen him”.

John has trained his son Tyson since he was 12, and his outspoken criticism of Davison sealed the coach’s fate.

Tyson required 47 stitches in a horror gash that opened up above his right eye in the third round – but somehow managed to take it to the judges’ scorecards.

Just two months after that fight, it was revealed that Tyson had split with Davison, but that the two would “remain good friends”.

Fury, 31, is now working with Detroit-based trainer Javan ‘Sugar Hill’ Steward, and former world middleweight champion Andy Lee.

With a warts-and-all documentary to air on ITV on Thursday at 9pm, the Gypsy King has revealed why he has turned back to his roots.

There’s never been a gypsy like Tyson, what he has you can’t teach, it’s a gift from god

The 31-year-old said: “I’ve always been close to my dad, he’s trained me all his life, my dad isn’t in it for any money or any gain, he just wants his son to do well.”

And “Big John” as he has affectionately become known as in boxing circles is under no illusion as to the talent his son posseses.

He added: “There’s never been a gypsy like Tyson, what he has you can’t teach, it’s a gift from God.

“Tyson will always be a gypsy, no matter what he does, he’ll live fancy, he’ll live better than a lot of gypsies, but he’s still a gypsy.”

BATTLES WITH DEPRESSION

John has trained him since the age of 12, taking him all the way to heavyweight champion of the world.

He is a former boxer himself and the Fury’s have been bare knuckle fighters for generations.

The Sun has also reported how the TV show will explore some of the darkest moments of Fury’s life.

The heavyweight boxer says he got depressed after becoming world heavyweight champ in 2015 — as there was nothing more to achieve.

He describes how he planned to crash his Ferrari into a bridge before a voice at the last second reminded him of his family and that is when he knew he needed to get help for depression.

Fury will rematch against WBC champ Deontay Wilder on February 22 in Las Vegas.

The two fought to a draw back in December 2018, with many believing Fury was cheated out of becoming a heavyweight champ again.

Brand new three part series Tyson Fury: The Gypsy King starts on Thursday at 9pm on ITV.
