Triple H reveals why Mike Tyson boxing match at WWE WrestleMania was axed over ‘ludicrous’ money demands

TRIPLE H revealed Mike Tyson priced himself out of a boxing match at WrestleMania 17 after the heavyweight legend demanded “ludicrous” money.

Iron Mike made his WWE debut in 1998 which concluded with him acting as the special guest enforcer for Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin’s WrestleMania 14 match.

Tyson turned on Tripe H’s friend and DX parent Michaels which in turn would have set him up for a return three years later at WrestleMania 17.

The WWE were keen to use Tyson’s rivalry with DX as part of a storyline that would see the boxer take on Triple H.

But the now 50-year-old Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative revealed Tyson’s wage demands were just too high.

He told WWE.com: “We were going to do six rounds.

“I don’t remember if it was going to be full boxing rules, or whether I was wearing gloves.

“But it ended up being a deal where the whole thing just would have been a ludicrous amount of money, and it got pushed off.”

Triple H is a big boxing fan and has accompanied Floyd Mayweather to the ring before while also sharing a picture in the ring with Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2018.

The WWE legend welcomed WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury into the wrestling promotion last year, with the Brit going on to beat Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel.

And the 14-time champion took a cheeky swipe at Fury’s rival Deontay Wilder as he blamed his heavy entrance attire for his loss to Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 30.

It followed as Wilder astonishingly claimed his 45lb ring walk costume before facing Fury “weakened” his legs Fury.

In the online dig, Triple H said: “Just as an FYI. That entrance costume was super heavy ….Like 45 lbs …..My legs were shot…Only reason Daniel beat me !!!!!!”
