Logan Paul is bigger threat to Floyd Mayweather than UFC star Conor McGregor, insists ex-boxing champion Victor Ortiz

LOGAN PAUL is a bigger threat to Floyd Mayweather than Conor McGregor was, insists ex-boxing champion Victor Ortiz.

Money, who retired with a perfect 50-0 record after stopping Notorious in the tenth three years ago, is coming out of retirement in February to fight in what he hopes will be the richest fight of all time.

Mayweather retired as the undisputed box office king, selling 29million PPVs during his iconic 50-0 career.

His 2015 win over Manny Pacquiao smashed the record with 4.6m sold, with his fight against UFC star McGregor two years later coming in at 4.4m.

Paul, 25, only made his professional debut with a defeat to fellow social media star KSI in November 2019.

But that has not stopped his training pal and former boxing star Ortiz from bigging up his chances against arguably the best to ever step foot into the ring.

And he has no doubts that Paul will cause more problems for Mayweather, 43, than McGregor did.

Ortiz told MMA Fighting: “Conor couldn’t do nothing.

“I don’t mean to speak bad. Conor’s a heck of a UFC fighter in the octagon, but he has no business in a ring, as opposed to someone like Logan – Logan learned in a ring. So his stuff is all standup.

“Everything about Logan is boxing, angles, moving, so it’s two different worlds.

“I couldn’t tell you what someone like Logan or myself could do in an octagon, but stick to what you know. And Logan, he knows boxing right now.”

Ortiz continued: “McGregor’s a hell of a boxer. I’m a huge fan of McGregor. I’ve always pulled for Conor, except for when he fought Floyd.

“Floyd shut it down when Floyd was done playing. He said, ‘OK, I just gave the world a show. I’m going to put you night night.’

“Did he catch him a couple of times? Absolutely. It’s a fight, for god’s sake. But Floyd was going to shut it down when Floyd wanted to.”

And after watching McGregor, who returns to the Octagon against Dustin Poirier next month, struggle against Mayweather, Ortiz backed Paul to put up a better show.

He added: “What I’ve been watching and seeing is a YouTuber gone professional boxer who puts in hours and hours of work studying films.

“He’s very disciplined, and he’s working his butt off, and he listens.

“He has a heck of a coach [in Milton Lacroix] who’s very knowledgeable and very experienced. I believe it’s a dangerous combo.

“I’m telling you, it’s going to be an interesting fight. I’ve talked to him about Floyd a few times. … I give him the simple things: ‘Floyd is Floyd, but you’re unstoppable. You’re on another level.’

“I strongly believe Floyd will have trouble. Logan can box, and he has power, reach speed, and he can move now.”
