Frank Warren slams ‘sad’ Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr fight and claims retired boxers are ‘obviously doing it for money’

FRANK WARREN has labelled Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr ‘sad’ for their comeback clash later this month.

Iron Mike, 54, will step back into the ring for the first time in over 15 years for the exhibition meeting in Los Angeles.

But promoter Warren, 68, has little interest in watching the retired fighters face off.

He told Punching.TV: “It’s on BT and I work with BT. For me, I have no interest in it.

“By interest, I don’t like the idea of guys that age fighting.

“I know it’s going to be a so-called exhibition match but I have no interest.

“They’re obviously doing it for money and I think it’s quite sad that they’re doing what they’re doing.

“They should not be doing it, boxing is a young man’s game.”

Tyson is thought to be approximately worth just £2million despite earning huge sums for his record-breaking heavyweight career.

While Jones Jr, 51, has reportedly accumulated £34m in a career that spans 75 fights ahead of this match-up.

The veterans are due to face each other on November 28 and claim to be in top shape ahead of the exhibition match.

Tyson remarked earlier in the week: “I just started exercising and was feeling so good.

“I had an urge to hit the bag, something I haven’t done in more than 15 years.

“I was enjoying it and I never thought I would get enjoyment out of boxing again.

“I thought the sport had robbed the best of me but it wasn’t true. I just feel better than I ever have physically and mentally and it’s just something I needed to do for myself.”

Mike Tyson reveals Roy Jones Jr fight will not be a one-off and he wants to ‘box all over the world’
