It comes after Mayweather announced last year he was “coming out of retirement in 2020” and later appeared to confirm he would lace up the gloves again, though only for “entertainment”.
But Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe told BoxingScene the return to the gym is only because the retired American “takes great pride” in his appearance.
Ellerbe said: “Floyd keeps his body in shape. He’s very conscious about how he looks.
“He’s always been disciplined and he takes great pride in how he carries himself. His body is bladed up right now.
“He’s must-see TV. He’s Mr. Box Office. He’s TBE for a reason. People miss that. That’s why there is so much talk about him coming back.”
Mayweather – who beat McGregor in his final fight three years ago – has maintained he is a retired fighter, citing he has nothing left to prove against recognised boxers, pouring cold water on a Manny Pacquiao rematch.
But he said he is not “retired from business” as he opened the door for another crossover fight against either McGregor or UFC champion Nurmagomedov, demanding £250m for each fight.
Despite the fighting talk, Ellerbe insisted a comeback is merely speculation and insisted if Mayweather was to box again, his fans would have been told by now.
He said: “People miss the mega Mayweather events and beating everyone they put in front of him. They miss the excitement and rooting against him.
“If Floyd determines that [Manny Pacquiao or McGregor] can get a rematch, he’ll let the entire world know that.
“Right now he’s still retired, but if he changes his mind and wants to do something other than what he’s doing, he’ll let the entire world know.”
