Canelo Alvarez shows off ripped abs and looks in sensational shape ahead of return and could face Saunders this year

CANELO ALVAREZ is already in sensational shape as he prepares to make his return to the ring.

The Mexican superstar, 29, has not fought since moving up to light-heavyweight in November, where he knocked out Sergey Kovalev to take home the WBO belt.

Canelo since planned to move back down in weight, with a proposed fight against super-middleweight Billy Joe Saunders all but agreed.

However, the coronavirus KO’d the fight and around the same time Saunders saw his British boxing license suspended following a controversial video appearing to show men how to hit their partners in lockdown.

The British Board took away his boxing license, though a hearing has yet to take place due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

But the 30-year-old could still apply for a license to box in America, clearing him to fight Canelo.

And Alvarez, a four weight champion, has trained throughout lockdown, and showed off his stellar physique online as well as hitting the heavy bag in the gym.

Golden Boy Promotions chief Bernard Hopkins told iFL TV Saunders is still in the running to face the Mexican.

But with Canelo plotting a September return, his comeback fight looks destined to happen behind closed doors.

As a result, Golden Boy are exploring cheaper opponents due to the loss of ticket sales, with Anthony Dirrell and Sergiy Derevyanchenko – who lost to Gennady Golovkin last year – in consideration.

Saunders himself admitted fighting Canelo in September looks off the cards while also demanding a full and uninterrupted training camp to prepare for the pound-for-pound star.

He said: “Eddie Hearn is trying his best. We’re trying to get that fight made, but to be honest with you, I don’t know what’s going to happen.

“Whether it’s $100 million or $200 million or f***ing 10 pence, if I’m not 100 per cent right and they try to spring stuff on me, I won’t take it. End of.

“There’s a chance [the Canelo fight still happens], but in September, probably not. All I can do is keep winning.

“I’m not going to worry about that fight. I’m not desperate for their money.

“I’ve got enough money to feed my family. I’ll do what the right decision is for me.”
