CANELO ALVAREZ opened the door to a sensational match-up with American Errol Spence Jr after his bout with Brit Callum Smith.
Boxing fans were caught off guard when pound-for-pound king Canelo announced he was fighting Liverpool’s Smith on Instagram earlier today.

The Mexican superstar will contest the super-middleweight fight as a free agent on December 19 after terminating his bumper deal with Golden Boy Promotions.
And it appears the 30-year-old is already looking even further ahead to a potential showdown with unified WBC and IBF welterweight champion Spence Jr.
As reported by talkSPORT’s Michael Benson, Alvarez spoke about the possibility of a future fight with Spence.
He said: “Spence is a great fighter.
“The weight is very difficult, but we’ll see later. He is a great fighter.”
Unbeaten Spence, 30, is next in action against Danny Garcia on December 5.
And he believes potential opponent Canelo is the best pound-for-pound boxer around.
Spence only rated himself at No3 in his top five pound-for-pound fighters.
He told Fox Sports: “Canelo Alvarez, I’d put him as number one because he’s won titles at 154, 160, 168 and 175.”
Canelo would have to shed over TWENTY pounds from super middleweight after fighting Smith – if he wants to scrap Spence at weltwerweight.
But Spence told SunSport last month that he would be willing to fight Canelo at middleweight.
He said he wanted the mega-fight when fans could return at the 80,000 AT&T Stadium – home to the Dallas Cowboys.
SunSport’s pound for pound top ten
The Texan native exclusively told SunSport: “With Canelo, yeah, I’d definitely entertain that. That can happen, that’s a huge fight.
“That would be huge for the Cowboys’ stadium when we’re back to 100 per cent capacity.
“That’s another mega-fight which I could have. I could have a lot of mega-fights.
“It takes quite a few pounds to get down to 147. I wouldn’t have any problems fighting at 160.”
