But his fight – on the undercard for Billy Joe Saunders’ win over Martin Murray – ended in a points defeat to the 20-year-old from Sheffield who moved to 5-0.

And it came at a cost as he sustained a fracture – which required surgery – in the sixth and final round in London.

A battered Dragone tweeted on Saturday morning: “Morning all, thank you for all your support last night was a great battle.

“Sadly suffered broken jaw in round 6 last night waiting to go into theatre now.

“Thanks to my Team and doctors @MatchroomBoxing for acting so fast.

“I’ll be back – Congratulations @DonteDixon_TP.”

The Welshman added late last night: “Well tonight wasn’t my night!! But couldn’t of done anymore.

“Pushed all the way in a hard 6 rounds battle – in the last round I suffered a broken jaw and on the way home to hospital now.

“There was no way I was taking a knee, my drive and mentality kept me on my feet.”

Boxing chief Eddie Hearn replied: “Sorry to hear that mate recover soon, amazing effort last night you will be back stronger.”
