Smith appeared in eight league games for the U18s, where he kept an impressive five clean sheets.
The youngster – who has featured for the U23s – joined non-league side Salisbury at the start of the campaign.
But he returned to London Colney after he picked up an injury that is expected to keep him out of action for up to another two months.
In a statement released by the Gunners, Arsenal said: “Young goalkeeper Tom Smith has signed his first professional contract with the club.”
Before adding: “Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Tom on his new contract and we look forward to his continued development.”
Arsenal are looking to finish top of their Europa League group when they face Standard Liege in their final game later today.
The North Londoners haven’t won in their past two European matches, and know failure to beat the Belgian side could lead to Eintracht Frankfurt finishing top.
Freddie Ljungberg is expected to start a number of young players ahead of Sunday’s clash against Manchester City at the Emirates.
Bukayo Sako, Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson are all in line to be named in the starting XI.
Ahead of the game, Ljungberg has promoted academy duo Joseph Oluwu and Mark McGuinness to train with the first team squad.
The Super Swede – who was the U23s boss last season – is keen to integrate the academy into the senior side.
Immediately after taking charge on an interim basis, the ex-West Ham man called up Tyreece John-Jules to first team training as well as midfielder Robbie Burton.
