And it means that next month Willian is able to talk to foreign clubs over a free transfer in the summer.

Frank Lampard previously urged Chelsea to open talks with the 31-year-old after some eye-catching performances this season.

Juventus are interested in signing Willian after the winger won the Europa League under Maurizio Sarri last season.

While Barcelona are believed to be preparing a contract offer to lure him to the Nou Camp at the end of the campaign.

Real Madrid have even been linked despite already poaching Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois from Stamford Bridge in the past few years.

However, Willian now looks set to be staying at Chelsea after the club decided to open talks over a lucrative new deal.

He told Yahoo: “I’ve stated several times my wish is to stay at Chelsea. I like the club very much.

“I feel very welcome here, as well as my family, and we love living in London.

“However, I’m in the middle of the season and I try not to think about it, not to lose focus on the pitch.

“My agent and the club are talking and I hope we can have some good news soon.

“In transfer windows it’s normal to have proposals and speculation, especially for players who are at the end of contract.

“But my focus is 100 per cent on Chelsea and the season.”
