Greenwood, 18, came off the bench to equalise for United in their 1-1 draw with Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday.

And the young striker’s left-footed finish and general style of play has been compared with van Persie’s who played for United between 2012 and 2015.

Asked if he rated Greenwood on an Instagram Q and A, the 36-year-old replied in hilarious fashion.

He said: “I think he will be very good because during every game he tries to copy me.

“My style, my technique, my left foot, my way of finishing… so, I’m sure he will end up well.”

And the former Arsenal man is not the only one backing Greenwoood for big things.

After the Everton draw, Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted the youngster is making it hard to leave him out of the starting XI.

He said: “Mason is making it hard for me to leave him out.

“I remember when I came to the club as well and I kept scoring a few goals but still I felt I could perform better if I’m not involved in the game.

“But the manager’s comments were that it was hard to keep players who score out of the team.

“It’s very very difficult now to put a team out there without having Mason in my mind, yes.”
