Abraham has thrived under the watchful eye of Frank Lampard this season after breaking into the first-team.

The speedy striker has proved his potential for the club after being shipped out on loan to Bristol City, Swansea and Aston Villa.

He has scored 11 goals and made three assists in 20 appearances this term, but has insisted there’s plenty more to come.

Speaking on the club’s official website, he said: “I heard a lot of things about the cursed No9 shirt at Chelsea but I was willing to take that upon myself and change it.

“It’s a dream come true for me and in the next 15 years I want to create a legacy so I can sit back when I retire and know I made myself proud as Chelsea’s No9.”

The four-cap England international is refusing to let the curse of the club’s No9 shirt halt his progress at Stamford Bridge.

From Gonzalo Higuain to Fernando Torres, a whole host of stars have tried and failed to tame the shirt.

Speaking about him and Lampard, Abraham added: “We talked about the play-off final, just me giving him and Jody Morris a bit of stick.

“But our first proper conversation was him asking if I wanted the number nine shirt.

“He told me to think about it and not to rush the decision but I had already made my mind up on the spot.”

Frank Lampard is sure that John Terry will receive an amazing reception from Chelsea fans when he returns to Stamford Bridge
