Swansea make transfer approach to take Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster on loan for rest of season

SWANSEA are in talks with Liverpool about a loan deal for Rhian Brewster, according to The Athletic.

Despite Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp initially being opposed to the idea, he is now in favour of the teenager gaining some first-team experience elsewhere.

Swansea have now formally approached the Reds about a loan deal for the striker for the rest of the season.

Brewster has only made two appearances for Liverpool this season and a move to Swansea in the Championship would allow him more game time.

Other Championship teams including Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday are also interested in the youngster.

There is a chance he could start in Liverpool’s Merseyside derby with Everton in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, but his chances in the league look limited.

Brewster flourished in 2017 when he was part of the England U17 squad which enjoyed World Cup success under then coach Steve Cooper- who is now in charge at Swansea.

He scored eight goals, playing alongside Jadon Sancho, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Phil Foden, earning him the honour of the golden boot.

Swansea boss Cooper would welcome any loan deals after saying about the upcoming transfer window: ”No update, apart from, it’s common knowledge that there’s no money.

”We’re going into January now. We’re not going to get frustrated when we see other clubs that are bringing players in and have a few quid to spend.

”We’re not going to be comparing ourselves to that because otherwise you’re focusing on something that’s not in your control.

”We are where we are, and my belief is to work really hard and get the best out of the players we have, because they’re giving their best.

”Until such time that changes, in terms of personnel, I won’t think about it but we won’t be bringing anyone in.”
