MANCHESTER UNITED may have dodged a £113million bullet in summer transfer market – with Mason Greenwood outshining their once top target Joao Felix, according to the stats.
The academy product, 18, is outperforming the Portuguese star in every department and didn’t cost the club a single penny.
Mason Greenwood boasts much better stats than £113m man Joao Felix
Man Utd had chased the former Benfica flyer all summer, only to be beaten to the punch by Atletico Madrid in a £113m deal.
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately short of attacking players after getting rid of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku, the Norwegian turned to youth in Greenwood.
The young striker had a superb pre-season and continued his knack for scoring goals in limited action in both the Premier League and Europa League ever since.
Greenwood has not only outscored Felix, 20, but he’s also been a better creative influence than the once sought-after winger.
The English wonderkid has scored seven times in 18 games this season, while playing 1.2 key passes per 90 minutes.
Meanwhile, Felix has scored just four times in the same amount of matches, while playing just 0.8 key balls per 90.
Greenwood has now become “impossible to drop” thanks to his superb form, according to boss Solskjaer.
The United chief claimed: “He’s making it hard for me to leave him out.
“I remember when I came to the club as well and kept scoring goals — but I still felt I could be performing better, that I was not involved enough in the games.
“But the manager said, ‘It is hard to keep players who score out of the team’.
“It’s very, very difficult now to put a team out there without having Mason in my mind.”
