He was clearly infuriated with what he deemed a foul on him, and he aimed a kick upwards at Rudiger.
Referee Anthony Taylor was alerted by video technology that the incident needed looking at.
After a few minutes, the man in the middle brandished the red card, which saw the South Korean star slump to the turf in despair.
It is the South Korean’s second red card of the season after he was dismissed for an attempted tackle that led to Everton midfielder Andre Gomes breaking his leg in two places.
VAR PLAYS KEY ROLE
This was later rescinded however as a panel judged it wasn’t the tackle that caused the horror injury but studs getting caught in the grass.
It was the second big appearance of video technology in the game.
Towards the end of the first half Chelsea were awarded a controversial penalty after Paulo Gazzaniga crashed into Marcos Alonso.
It led to Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester United star Gary Neville labelling the incident as “an assault”.
Referee Anthony Taylor firstly gave a free-kick the other way.
But after consulting VAR the decision was overturned and he instead pointed to the spot.
Willian did the rest and sent Gazzaniga the wrong way to put the Blues 2-0 up, scoring his second goal of the game.
