Sir Alex Ferguson’s leaked transfer plans reveal he wanted to buy Vincent Kompany for Man Utd in 2004

SIR ALEX FERGUSON’S leaked transfer list reveals he wanted to sign Vincent Kompany for Manchester United in 2004 – four years before he joined City.

The Belgium international called time on his illustrious 11-year spell in the blue half of Manchester earlier this year.

The history of both Manchester sides could have been much different had Ferguson signed all his transfer targets in 2004.

The Belgian was named as a potential squad addition for Fergie’s team, alongside Gerard Pique and Gabriel Heinze – whose names are each marked with an arrow next to them on the leaked list.

Both centre-backs did move to Old Trafford in the summer of that year.

While Kompany, 33, joined City for £7million in 2008, becoming the club’s icon and leading them as they were rising to the top during the Sheikh Mansour era.

He won four Prem titles, four League Cups and two FA Cups at the Etihad, then known as the City of Manchester Stadium when he was unveiled by Mark Hughes 11 years ago.

But Kompany’s arrival could have also had serious ramifications for the Red Devils.

Fans noticed it would have likely prevented United legend Nemanja Vidic from sealing his Old Trafford move in 2006.

Ferguson’s side, with the former Serbia international as its defensive linchpin, then went on to win five Premier League titles.

They also triumphed in the Champions League in 2008.

The leaked document appears to be a very precise assessment of the former Red Devils manager’s plans back in 2004.

Nicky Butt and Diego Forlan, whose names are circled and listed under “excess”, both left the club that summer.
