Real Madrid set to recall Jesus Vallejo from Wolves loan spell after failing to break into starting XI

REAL MADRID want to recall Jesus Vallejo from his season-long loan at Wolves, according to reports.

The defender, 22, joined the Molineux side in July and made his debut for the club in a Europa League qualifier against FC Pyunik.

But things have not gone according to plan for the youngster, despite settling well off the field in the West Midlands.

He has made just seven appearances across all competitions under Nuno Espirito Santo, totalling 612 minutes of action as he struggles to break into the back three of Conor Coady, Ryan Bennett and Romain Saiss.

It is a seemingly-bizarre U-turn from Wolves, who looked on course to give Vallejo an important role this season as they balance Premier League and Europa League football.

Upon signing, Vallejo said: “Nuno called me and explained the project to me. It was the club that bet on me the strongest.”

The lack of football has put the Spain Under-21 international’s place at next summer’s Tokyo Olympics in major doubt.

So now, according to AS, Real are determined to terminate the loan deal as soon as possible.

Doing so in January would then enable Los Blancos to loan Vallejo back out to another club in the transfer window.

It is understood if the loan does end, Vallejo would want to play in Germany or his native Spain.

He spent the 2016/17 season at Eintracht Frankfurt, playing 27 times.

And it is understood the Bundesliga side would be interested in taking him back again.

The other side who would likely try and sign the defender is Leganes.

Based in Madrid, the La Liga side are struggling in their battle to stay up this season, conceding 28 goals before the turn of the year.

But the signing of Vallejo until the end of the campaign would surely give them a much-needed boost in their attempts to avoid the drop.
