Rangers ‘reject £11m transfer offer from unnamed club for Alfredo Morelos’ ahead of Old Firm clash against Celtic

RANGERS have rejected an £11million bid for red-hot striker Alfredo Morelos, according to reports.

Colombian outlet El Universal claim a club tabled the big-money bid for the Gers striker, 23, ahead of the January transfer window.

The newspaper from Morelos’ homeland do not name the club which made the bid but claim it was way below an acceptable fee.

But they do report that Premier League clubs are showing the most interest in the on-form forward.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard has previously ruled out a January transfer move for Morelos.

He is adamant he won’t let his talisman leave in the window even for £40m.

Asked if he would accept an offer of that amount, Gerrard said: “No. And you can add another £10m on as well.”

Ahead of today’s Old Firm clash Gerrard has also backed Morelos to break his goalscoring duck against Celtic.

Over the past three seasons, Morelos has gone 11 games against the Parkhead side without netting.

He said: “I thought Alfredo’s all-round performance was really good in the final. He created a lot of the chances for himself out of nothing.

“He’s just got to go do exactly the same thing, but try and take the big moments in the game.

“If he does it will give us a better chance of winning. Alfredo’s inner resolve is an area of him that I don’t think you ever have to worry about.

“He’s in love with football. He doesn’t like missing one minute of training. He doesn’t like being a sub or coming off. He motivates himself every time he sees a ball.

“I’m not worried about him trying too hard. I want all my players to try too hard.

“I would definitely rather go with that than them not trying and not caring, or not being bothered individually or collectively.

“Alfredo has to do the job we are asking of him as a team.

“He has to do the job and stick to the game plan in possession — and out of possession he has to carry that out to the best of his ability.

“Part of that is to try and create chances, be a team player, and when the big moments come to take them. That is what he gets paid to do.

“Alfredo shouldn’t go in thinking about himself or what has gone on in the past.

“He should be thinking: ‘What do I need to do for my team to try and get us a positive result?’

“We have got a decision to make in terms of who starts the game, but of course he will play some part. I have got no doubt he will be a threat and be dangerous.

“It will only be a matter of time before his Old Firm goal comes, and let’s hope it is like the buses where I am from!”
