Speaking on Back of the Net about his favourite warm-up snack, Scholes said: “Beans on toast, always, try to have it all the time.
“I always had a Turkish Delight as well, the night before the game.
“It was a bit of a superstition, weird that.
“Two Turkish Delights and a cup of tea, but I’d always buy a packet of three and leave one.”
It clearly didn’t hinder Scholes when he stepped on the pitch.
The midfielder scored over 150 goals in more than 700 appearances for United and won 25 trophies, which included 11 Premier League titles and two Champions League triumphs.
He also added 66 England caps to his impressive achievements.
Footballers are now required to follow a strict diet and fitness regime but that wasn’t the case for Scholes or Kevin Keegan, who was also on the show.
Keegan added his into the mix, saying: “We had steak, chips and gravy.
“But so did the opposition so we all felt sick.”
Scholes isn’t the only one to have a different pre-match meal.
Waye Rooney reveals his preferred choice is a bowl of Coco Pops.
Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy revealed he has three Red Bulls, a double espresso and a cheese and ham omelette before every game.
George Best also went with the unhealthy route, eating a chocolate bar before turning out for United.
It’s not just footballers who have strange appetites before games.
England cricketer Ben Stokes had a “knock-off Nando’s and two bars of Yorkie biscuit and raisin” before his 135 not out against Australia in the summer.
Scholes has moved back into punditry following his short stint as Oldham Athletic manager.
The Manchester United legend quit after just four weeks, saying he wasn’t able to run the club the way he wanted.United produced an impressive performance to beat rivals Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad on Saturday.
Scholes has previously said he believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are still a long way from challenging for the title.
