But they face competition from Championship clubs Bristol City, Swansea and Nottingham Forest who both believe the 19-year-old can make a major difference to their fights to gain promotion to the top flight.
Guehi is the latest prodigious young talent to emerge at Stamford Bridge having appeared twice for the first team under Frank Lampard.
And he has been accelerated through the England system to Aidy Boothroyd’s U21 squad.
Chelsea believe the teenager has all the attributes needed to become a star and tied him down to a new long-term deal in September.
But now they want him to step up his development my sending him out on loan in January – and there is no shortage of clubs eager to snap him up.
Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl admitted this week he urgently needs new defenders in to help shore up a defence that is shipping too many goals.
And Norwich have also declared an interest, believing the England under-17 World Cup winner will feet in seamlessly with their style of play of the second half of the campaign.
The decision for Chelsea and Guehi to make is whether the right move for him will be to join a Premier League side battling for survival or drop down to a good Championship club.
Swansea, Bristol City and Forest are all hoping to seal promotion this season, and are offering regular football to the teenager who has been at Chelsea since he was spotted playing in South-East London at the age of nine.
