Man Utd to hold talks with Erling Haaland over transfer but RB Salzburg star is considering Dortmund switch

MANCHESTER UNITED are set to hold talks with RB Salzburg striker Erling Haaland as they look to beat Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign the sensational forward.

The 19-year-old star has attracted a great deal of attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs following a terrific start to the 2019/20 campaign.

Haaland has netted 28 goals in just 22 games for the Austrian Bundesliga side so far this season and also scored in all of his first five Champions League appearances.

He joined the Austrian outfit in January from Molde for just £7.5million, but his price tag has risen dramatically since then, with the German side valuing him at around £50million.

His prolific ability in front of goal has led to Man United and Juventus keeping a very close eye on him.

And now, according to The Guardian, there appears to be competition from both Dortmund and RB Leipzig, who have stepped up their pursuit.

The concern for Haaland and his family – including his father Alf-Inge, who played for Manchester City and Leeds – is that he will not get much game time at United due to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial being first choice.

Likewise, at Juventus there are a number of forward players fighting for the front positions – Cristiano Ronaldo, Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala to name just a few.

United have already seemingly missed out on another of Salzburg’s exciting talents in Japanese forward Takumi Minamino, who looks to be joining Premier League leaders Liverpool.

So Haaland may well be the make-or-break signing The Red Devils need to give them the best chance of finishing in the top four this season.

However, it is more likely the teenager will leave in the summer, rather than January window.
