Man Utd legend Giggs says Martial ‘looks lethargic all the time, as if he’s not bothered’

RYAN GIGGS claims Anthony Martial causes major problems for Manchester United by always “looking lethargic and not bothered”.

Old Trafford legend Giggs believes the Frenchman lacks the busy menace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men need up front when they are chasing a game.

Fast-blossoming Mason Greenwood, 18, came on to save United after they trailed Everton in Sunday’s 1-1 home draw.

And Giggs believes Martial needs to produce far more to stay in the side.

The Wales manager told the Premier League, via Metro: “He is talented, and he’s not a bad kid, but the problem he has is that he looks lethargic all the time. He looks casual, as if he’s not bothered.

“When it comes off, and he’s doing brilliant things, you say it just comes naturally.

“But when it’s not, you think: he’s not running, he’s not trying, he’s not working hard enough, he’s not holding the ball up.

“So in my eyes he has to try extra hard because of his persona, because of the way that he moves.

“But he doesn’t look like he breaks sweat and when United are chasing a game you want someone to get across the front post. “You might not score, but your team-mate might score.”

Solskjaer has been linked with RB Salzburg’s Norway frontman Erling Haaland and Juve’s Mario Mandzukic in next month’s transfer window as he eyes back-up for England ace Marcus Rashford.

And although Solskjaer has hailed Greenwood as United’s best finisher, he does not want to rush the England Under-21s star’s development.
