MANCHESTER UNITED fans dubbed Phil Jones a “clown” for his “car crash defending” – after his blunder led to Sheffield United taking the lead in their game at Bramall Lane.
The United defender, 27, failed to attack the ball and was out-muscled by Lys Mousset on the touchline as the Blades took an early 1-0 lead seconds later.

But even aside from the blunder leading to the goal, Jones was flying around like a headless chicken in what was his first Premier League game of the season.
The former England ace threw himself into desperate tackles and launched himself to the floor, all the while pulling his infamous faces throughout the opening half an hour.
Such was the extent of Jones’ struggle, he was then taken off at half-time by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, replaced by Jesse Lingard.
Fans on Twitter couldn’t believe what they were seeing during a comical first-half… here’s what they had to say.
One wrote: “Phil Jones should become a comedian. What a horrific defender.”
Another said: “Welcome back, Phil Jones. A riddle inside in an enigma wrapped up in a bloody shambles.”
A third added: “Phil Jones is such a clown ffs how is this guy starting in 2019?!”
One even tweeted: “Absolute car crash defending from Phil Jones there.”
