LUKE SHAW left Manchester United fans raging after he put in an off-colour performance in their Premier League clash with Everton.
The left-back was off the pace throughout the opening 45 minutes as a Victor Lindelof own goal saw the Toffees take a 1-0 lead into the interval.
United ultimately managed to bring the score back to 1-1 and take a point thanks to Mason Greenwood’s strike after the break.
After a season in which Shaw has often been found wanting, many fans found his latest display too much to swallow and took to twitter to vent at the England international.
A user by the name @biggytrs wrote: “I didn’t get into my district team cos I was fat so why is Luke Shaw allowed to play for Manchester United, fat bast***d.”
Another simply posted: “Some people actually believe that someone held back this fellow called Luke Shaw. A player completely lacking in talent or desire was said to be held back. held back from what exactly.”
Stephen Smith was quick to put the boot in and tweeted: “Not as vocal a critic as others on here but Luke Shaw is having what the football experts might label as a fu***ng shocker.”
Shaw has found his place in the United team under pressure this season and the emergence of Brandon Williams has led many to call for the youngster to be the long-term choice at left-back.
Williams has made the most of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s policy of giving youth players a chance and made 11 appearances in all competitions this season.
He scored his first senior goal for thew club in the 3-3 draw with Sheffield United last month with a smartly taken half-volley.
The 24-year-old has made only seven appearances this season and his overall fitness has regualrly been questioned when he has been selected by Solskjaer.
In truth the former Southampton man has struggled to reach the levels he set in the early stages of the 2015/16 season under Louis Van Gaal.
At the time he was considered to be one of the best young defenders around but a shockin leg break saw his progress halted.
