Man City ‘ready to offload Joao Cancelo’ just six months after £58m transfer with Valencia interested

MANCHESTER CITY are ready to get rid of Joao Cancelo just six months after signing him for £58million, according to reports.

Valencia are set to launch a bid to re-sign the defender in the January window, say the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old Portugal star is liked by Pep Guardiola but simply does not get enough game time after being unsuccessful in his bid to replace Kyle Walker as first choice right-back.

Cancelo spent three seasons between 2015 and 2018 at Valencia and now it looks like he could be on his way back.

This comes despite Guardiola’s recent insistence that he has no desire to see the former La Liga man walk out the door.

Asked about Cancelo, Guardiola said: “I hope, and I think, he won’t leave.”

Cancelo has scored one goal in 15 appearances in all competitions this season, with his last Premier League showing coming over a month ago in the 2-1 win over Chelsea.

His only goal was in this month’s 3-1 EFL Cup win over League One side Oxford.

Valencia are reportedly looking to sign Cancelo on loan with a view to a permanent move.

Bayern Munich have also been linked to the player.

However, it is believed Valencia owner Peter Lim has already held talks with Cancelo’s agent Jorge Mendes.

Cancelo started his career at Benfica before spells at Valencia, Inter and Juventus before his move to the Etihad.
