Liverpool investigating alleged incident between Wolves defender Jonny and a ball boy at Anfield

LIVERPOOL are investigating an alleged incident between a ball boy and Wolves defender Jonny.

According to the Press Association, the Merseyside club are looking into whether the Spaniard, 25, made contact with the ball boy while trying to retrieve the item.

A Liverpool statement said: “The club will follow established protocols in terms of gathering the relevant information.

“While that process takes place we will be making no further comment.”

The Premier League leaders won the match 1-0 thanks to Sadio Mane’s goal, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had a goal controversially ruled out for offside.

It was Jonny who was adjudged to be off as Wolves scored a first-half equaliser.

His run was a key part of the move that saw Pedro Neto put the ball into the back of the net just before the break.

If Jonny is found to be guilty of using over-zealous force against a ball boy, he could face further disciplinary action from the Football Association if it was mentioned in the referee’s report.

It is not the first time ball boys and players have clashed during matches.

Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard was sent off for kicking a ball boy during a League Cup game at Swansea in 2013.

The Belgian escaped punishment for the offence and served the usual three-game suspension.
